Biography

Alejandro Escovedo is a Mexican-American musician with a huge reputation and following for his exciting guitar style in a range of musical forms including alternative rock, punk, jazz and country. His 2016 album 'Burn Something Beautiful' with the group Minus Five peaked at number six on Billboard's Heatseekers Albums Chart and number 13 on the Americana/Folk Albums Chart and he toured with the band in 2017. Born in Texas into a musical family, he joined The Nuns playing punk rock in San Francisco and back in his home state in the 1980s he played in the bands True Believers and Rank and File with more of an alternative country sound, his first solo album, 'Gravity', in 1992 followed two years later by 'Thirteen Years'. He worked with many other artists and released more albums including 'Bourbonites' (1999), 'A Man Under the Influence' (2001) and 'By the Hand of the Father' (2002). His 2006 release 'The Boxing Mirror' went to number 38 on Billboard's Heatseekers Albums Chart followed by 'Real Animal' (2008) which reached number three. 'Street Songs of Love' (2010) topped the chart while 'Big Station' (2012) peaked at number six. He had to overcome complications from hepatitis C in his career but he continues to perform with what critics call "his trademark jangle". In January 2018 he began an American tour under the name 'A Man Under the Influence/Think About the Link' during which he performs his highly regarded 2001 album in its entirety.
