Chris Bathgate, born April 21, 1982 in Ames, Iowa, is an American singer-songwriter known for his contributions to indie folk and alternative rock. He began playing music at age 16 and initially played in a heavy metal band before transitioning to folk. In 2001, Bathgate launched his solo career with the album Dead Eyed Stranger, followed by several EPs and full-length albums including Create and Consume (2003), Time Heals All Wounds (2004), and Silence Is for Suckers (2005). In 2007, he signed to Quite Scientific Records and released his most prominent album, A Cork Tale Wake. The opening track "Serpentine" was featured as NPR Music's Song of the Day on January 15, 2008. Bathgate has issued ten studio albums, five EPs, and several singles, including "Auld Lang Syne" (2007), "Restless" (2008), and "No Silver" (2011). He returned with The Significance of Peaches in 2022.
