Biography

Carnivore was founded in 1982 by bassist and vocalist Peter Steele in Brooklyn, New York, United States. The band emerged from the breakup of Fallout, with Peter Steele’s heavy‑metal background shaping its early direction. Their breakthrough came with the single "Predator" in 1985, leading to the self‑titled debut album Carnivore released on 1 November 1985, which showcased a crossover thrash sound influenced by New York hardcore, Black Sabbath, and early Judas Priest. In 1987 they issued Retaliation, expanding their crossover style before disbanding later that year. Carnivore reunited for a few shows between 1994-1996, then as a four piece from 2006-2010. Peter Steele’s death on 14 April 2010 ended the reunion. The band reformed as Carnivore A.D. in 2017 with Baron Misuraca taking over bass and vocalist duties. Transmutation EP was released in March of 2026 with the new lineup. The band remains recognized for its pioneering role in American crossover thrash.
