Biography

Burlap to Cashmere is a contemporary Christian world music band formed in 1994 by cousins John Philippidis and Steven Delopoulos. The group originated from a college theater show at Marymount Manhattan College, where Delopoulos invited his then-14-year-old cousin to join him. Their breakthrough came with the release of Live At the Bitter End EP in 1997, followed by their debut full-length album Anybody Out There? in 1998 under A&M Records. The band's intense touring schedule led to a hiatus. After a near-fatal altercation involving John Philippidis in 2005, the duo performed acoustic sets as part of tours with Jars of Clay and NEEDTOBREATHE in 2007. Burlap to Cashmere released their self-titled album in 2011. The band was featured in director Brett Leonard's musical cinema concept PopFictionLife, resulting in the full-length feature film The Other Country - Starring Burlap to Cashmere, released in 2012.
