Browning Mummery was an early dark wave band formed in Sydney, Australia, in 1983 by Andrew Lonsdale. The project began as a collaborative and solo entity for electronic sound works, with Lonsdale producing experimental music since 1980. Browning Mummery's first live performance occurred on 2MBS-FM radio in 1983. The group released several key albums, including Obiter Scripta (1984), which was reissued multiple times. Notable collaborations included work with John Murphy and performances on various FM radio stations across Australia and Europe. The group released their debut CD album Browning Mummery (1997) and continued to produce electronic music, including Songs of the Bicardiac Assembly (2008). Browning Mummery's work was featured in several films and performances, notably Jo Cunynghameâs film Square (1985), which premiered at Melbourne's Arts Festival.
