Brightblack Morning Light was an American rock band from Northern California, formed in 2004. The duo consisted of guitarist Nathan Shineywater and pianist Rachael Hughes. The group previously performed under the names Rainywood and Brightblack, releasing the album Ala.Cali.Tucky (2003) on Galaxia Records. After signing with Matador Records, the band released its eponymous debut album Brightblack Morning Light (2006), which was praised by The New York Times for its hollowed-out grooves. Its second studio album Motion to Rejoin (2008) was recorded in New Mexico using solar power and was named one of the top 5 alternative albums of the year by The Guardian. Brightblack Morning Light disbanded in 2012 following the digital release of the album LIVE JOURNAL ONE Instrumentals (2006 & 2008) (2012).
