Biography

Wye Oak, an indie rock duo from Baltimore, Maryland, was formed in mid-2006 by Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack. Initially known as Monarch, they changed their name to Wye Oak, referencing the former state tree of Maryland. Their debut album, If Children, was released independently in 2007 and reissued by Merge Records in 2008 after signing with the label. The duo's second album, The Knot, followed in 2009, recorded at the University of Maryland Baltimore County where Stack was a student. Their third album, Civilian, released in 2011 and featured the title track in episodes of The Walking Dead and Safety Not Guaranteed. Subsequent albums include Shriek (2014), Tween (2016), and The Louder I Call, the Faster It Runs (2018).
