Biography

Boom Boom Satellites, a Japanese electronic music duo consisting of guitarist and vocalist Michiyuki Kawashima and bassist and programmer Masayuki Nakano, formed in 1990 after meeting at university. They debuted in Europe as a rock unit in 1997, with their first single released by Belgian record company R&S Records later that year. The duo's music gained early recognition when they were featured in the European magazine Melody Maker, where they were compared to The Chemical Brothers and The Prodigy. Boom Boom Satellites' debut album, 7 Ignitions/Auto Re-Birth, was released on April 1, 1998. They toured with Moby in the United States and contributed numerous songs to various films, commercials, and television programs. Notable tracks include "What Goes Around Comes Around", featured in a Dodge commercial in 2005, and "Easy Action", included on the soundtrack of the anime film Vexille in 2007. The duo also collaborated with Tahj Mowry and Flo Rida on a new version of their track "Kick It Out" in 2009. In January 2010, they released their first compilation album, 19972007. Their final studio album, Shine Like a Billion Suns, was released in January 2015. Kawashima's brain tumour diagnosis led to the cancellation of several shows and ultimately resulted in his death in October 2016, marking the end of Boom Boom Satellites.
