Biography

Formed in Kyoto, Japan in 1996, Quruli is a rock group founded by Shigeru Kishida (vocals, guitar) and Masashi Satoh (bass) along with Nobuyuki Mori (drums), who all met while attending Ritsumeikan University. The group’s lineup would continue to change over the years with only Kishida and Satoh remaining as the core members. The group’s first two albums were released independently before they signed with Victor Entertainment and released Goodbye Stranger (1999). The album was not a huge success although they did achieve chart success with their single “Tokyo,” which reached Number 64 on the Japanese singles chart. Quruli finally achieved commercial success with the electronic-influenced album Team Rock and the single “Bara no hana” in 2001. After changes in the band’s line up, they released the album The World is Mine (2002), which reached the Top 5 on the albums chart. The group’s success continued over the course of their next eight albums – from 2004’s Antenna to 2018’s Songline – all of which landed in the Top 5. In 2020, the group released the Thaw compilation, which was followed by their 13th album, Tensai no Ai, in 2021. After a two year wait, Quruli returned with the Sun of Love EP, which rose to Number 16 on the Oricon charts.
