Biography

Bongzilla, an American sludge metal band, was formed in 1995 in Madison, Wisconsin, by Michael "Muleboy" John Makela, Jeff "Spanky" Schultz, and Michael "Magma" Henry. Bongzilla's initial breakthrough came with their untitled demo produced by Steve Austin of Today Is the Day, followed by several EPs, including Mixed Bag (1996) and Hemp for Victory (1998). The band signed with Relapse Records, releasing several albums, including Stash (1999), Apogee (2001), and Amerijuanican (2005). Notable songs include "Sundae Driver" (2021) and "Nectar Collector" (2021). Bongzilla disbanded in 2007, with members forming Aquilonian. After several years of inactivity, the band reunited in 2015 and released Weedsconsin (2021) and Dab City (2023).
