Biography

Corrosion of Conformity, formed in 1982 by bassist Mike Dean, guitarist Woody Weatherman, drummer Reed Mullin and vocalist Benji Shelton in Raleigh, North Carolina, began as a hardcore punk outfit before shifting to a blues‑tinged metal style. Their 1984 EP Eye for an Eye and 1985 album Animosity established the band's credibility. In 1989, singer Pepper Keenan replaced previous vocalists, Erick Eycke (1983-1984) and Simon Bob (1986-1988), to become the voice and leader of the band. After signing with Columbia Records, Corrosion of Conformity released Deliverance (1994), which reached number 155 on the Billboard 200 and produced the rock radio hits "Albatross" and "Clean My Wounds". The 1996 album Wiseblood peaked at number 104, and its single "Drowning in a Daydream" earned a Grammy nomination. Following 2006, the group returned in 2010, issuing IX (2014) and No Cross No Crown (2018), the latter breaking into the top 100 at number 67. In 2026, eight years after their tenth studio album, they released Good God / Baad Man, featuring singles "Gimme Some Moore", "You or Me", and "Asleep on the Killing Floor". Collaborations with James Hetfield and Warren Haynes have further cemented their place in heavy‑metal history.
