Lycia, an American darkwave band, was formed in 1988 in Tempe, Arizona by Mike VanPortfleet. The group's main personnel included Tara VanFlower and David Galas. Lycia began as a solo project by VanPortfleet, who released the demo tape Wake in 1989. Their first full-length album, Ionia, was released in 1991 under Projekt Records. In 1993, they followed up with A Day in the Stark Corner. Lycia achieved notable success with their 1995 album The Burning Circle and Then Dust, which featured the power pop hit "Pray". The band toured extensively, notably opening for Type O Negative. Subsequent albums like Cold (1996) and Estrella (1998) further solidified their status in the darkwave genre. In 2003, Lycia released Empty Space.
