Biography

Bas Noir was an American female vocal house music group formed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, composed of Morie Bivens and Mary Ridley. The duo entered the music scene in the late 1980s, gaining early exposure through club performances and local radio play. Their breakthrough came with the single "My Love Is Magic" released in October 1988 on 10 Records, which entered the UK Singles Chart on 11 February 1989 and peaked at Number 73 for one week. In the United States, Bas Noir achieved a Number 20 position on the Hot Dance Club chart in 1992 with "Superficial Love", a track that showcased their blend of R&B, dance, and jazz elements. The same year, the group released their debut album Ah...Bas Noir.
