Bachelor Girl, an Australian pop duo, was formed in December 1992 when James Roche, a songwriter and record producer, met Tania Doko. Roche had previously worked with notable artists such as Tommy Emmanuel and John Farnham. Bachelor Girl signed with Gotham Records, distributed by BMG, after being rejected by Sony. Their debut single "Buses and Trains" was released in June 1998 and reached number 4 on the ARIA Singles Chart and number 6 on the New Zealand Singles Chart. Their debut album, Waiting for the Day, peaked at number 20 on the ARIA Albums Chart and achieved platinum certification. In August 2002, Bachelor Girl released their second studio album, Dysfunctional. However, the duo amicably split in 2004 after recording their third studio album, which was never officially released. In April 2011, a compilation album titled Loved & Lost: The Best of Bachelor Girl was released by Sony Music Australia. This album featured four tracks left out from the unreleased third studio album and included live performances to promote it. The group reunited later that year and released their third full-length Beautifully Wrong. Doko and Roche reconvened once again in 2017, releasing the singles "Speak" (2018) and later "Calling Out Your Name" (2023).
