Biography

Born in 1963 in Colombo, Sri Lanka, Beverley Craven grew up in England, where she embarked on a singing career after working as a backing singer for soul singer Bobby Womack. She was not yet twenty when her debut album of the same name was released in 1990, selling over a million copies and boosted by the success of "Promise Me", which reached No. 3 in the UK. Thereafter, the British singer struggled to repeat her commercial success, despite a succession of recordings following a BRIT Award in 1992. The albums Love Scenes (1993), Mixed Emotions (1999), Close to Home (2009) and Change of Heart (2014) were interspersed with long hiatus periods, including a bout with breast cancer in the 2000s.
