Biography

Greek-Cypriot singer-songwriter Michalis Hatzigiannis (born on November 5, 1978) cut his teeth as a musician aged 17, participating in a number of performances for Eurovision qualifiers. In May 1998, Hatzigiannis represented Cyprus in the Eurovision Song Contest and performed his self-penned song "Γένεσις" (Genesis). In Athens, his 1998 soundtrack collaboration "Aggigma Psychis” with lyricist Mihalis Bourboulis and composer Giorgos Hatzinasios was certified platinum and saw the pop-rock artist secure a foothold in the Greek music industry. Hatzigiannis released his Greek vocal star-studded debut album, Paraxeni Giorti, in March 2000, which went double-platinum. He released Hidden Kiss in 2002 and Inappropriate Scene in 2004, with both albums going triple platinum. That same year, Hatzigiannis performed on behalf of Greece at the 2004 Olympics. In 2007, he picked up an impressive eight awards at Greece's erstwhile Arion Music Awards, including Best Singer and Best Album. Hatzigiannis was one of the best-selling artists of the decade, selling over 3,500,000 copies. In 2018, Hatzigiannis released his 12th studio album as a composer, Apo Tin Archi (Da Capo).
