Biography

Antonio Ciacca, born March 14, 1969 in Wuppertal, Germany, is an Italian-American jazz musician and arranger. He began piano lessons at age seven and studied in the United States. Ciacca's career started as a sideman for artists like Art Farmer, James Moody, Lee Konitz, Mark Murphy, Dave Liebman, and Steve Grossman. In 1993, he moved to Detroit to study at Wayne State University under Kenny Barron, and later took private lessons with Jaki Byard in New York. Ciacca joined Steve Lacy’s band in 1997, a collaboration that lasted seven years, and later collaborated with Wynton Marsalis at Jazz at Lincoln Center. He served as Program Director at Jazz at Lincoln Center from 2007 to 2011. Notable albums include Hollis Avenue (1998) and Volare, the Italian American Songbook (2016).
