Biography

Davina Sowers, born in Altoona, Pennsylvania, is the frontwoman of Davina & The Vagabonds. She discovered pre-war blues and jazz through her stepfather's Edison phonograph, which laid the foundation for the band’s style. After struggling with homelessness and addiction as a teenager, Sowers settled in Minneapolis in 2004 and formed the band. Their debut album, Songs from the Thomas Avenue, was released in 2006. The band gained critical acclaim with their 2014 release Sunshine, which charted at number 13 on the Billboard Blues Albums chart, and the single "I Would Rather Drink Muddy Water" peaked at number 21 on the Billboard Blues Digital Songs chart. Their 2019 album Sugar Drops featured the song "I Can’t Believe I Let You Go," named by Rolling Stone as one of the ten best Americana songs of that year. Davina & The Vagabonds have toured extensively throughout the United States, United Kingdom, and Europe.
