Biography

Antarctica was an American experimental rock group formed in New York in 1995, featuring Eric Richter on vocals and guitar, Chris Donohue on vocals, guitar and programming, Ben Zimmerman on bass, Glenn Maryansky on drums, and Nicole Waxenblatt on keyboards, programming and mixing. The band debuted with the EP 23:03 in 1997, gaining attention for its dense sonic textures that blended shoegazing and electronica influences. In 1999 the group released the double‑CD 81:03, which solidified their reputation within the indie scene and led to a brief touring cycle across the northeastern United States. Their studio effort, "Return To Reality," was issued on 6 March 2000 through File 13 Records, followed by the final track, "Illusion" in 2001. The group disbanded later that year, and its members subsequently joined other projects such as Christie Front Drive, Ova Looven, and Blacklist; no posthumous releases or chart awards were recorded.
