Biography

Brazilian singer and actress Larissa de Macedo Machado, better known by her stage name Anitta, was born in Rio de Janeiro on March 30, 1993. She sang in the church choir at the age of eight and set her sights on becoming a pop star as a teenager. At the age of 17, she managed to land a record deal and, two years later, caused a stir with the controversial song "Meiga e Abusada" (2012), catching the attention of the Warner Music label. Her first single "Show das Poderosas" (2013) became a massive hit and the hype earned her debut album Anitta a platinum award. The follow-ups Ritmo Perfeito (2014) and Bang (2015) were also huge sellers in her home country. As a result, Anitta also tried to get her break internationally by collaborating with more established artists. In 2017 alone, she released "Switch" with Australian rapper Iggy Azalea, "Sua Cara" with EDM greats Major Lazer from the USA and drag queen Pabllo Vittar, and "Downtown" with Colombian singer J Balvin, among others. Her fourth album Kisses (2019) was not only successful in Brazil, but also reached number 16 pn the Billboard Top Latin Album Charts. Singles included "Banana" (feat. Becky G) and "Bola Rebola," a joint effort with Tropkillaz, J Balvin, and Zaac that went platinum in the USA and Portugal. In 2020, she collaborated with US rapper Cardi B and Puerto Rican rapper Myke Towers on the song " Me Gusta," which also became a worldwide hit. Preceded by the hit singles "Girl from Rio" and "Envolver," Versions of Me, her fifth studio effort, came out in 2022 and fared even better, peaking at number 2 in Brazil and charting in both France and Spain. In 2023, Anitta began teasing her upcoming album with the single "Funk Rave." The track was included in the album Funk Generation (2024), which marked a return to her roots in Brazilian funk. The EP was a tribute to the genre that first made her famous and featured guest spots by Brray, Bad Gyal, Dennis, Pedro Sampaio, and Sam Smith. That year, she also unveiled the full-length Ensaios da Anitta, released to promote her yearly carnival shows in Brazil, featuring contributions from Ivete Sangalo, HITMAKER, Simone Mendes, MC Danny, and Mc Livinho.
