Biography

Discovered at 14 after she began posting cover songs on YouTube, Becky G evolved from a bubblegum rap starlet into an international Latin pop star. Born Rebbeca Marie Gomez on March 2, 1997, in Inglewood, California, she was nine when her Mexican-American family suffered financial problems, lost their home to a fire, and moved into her grandparents’ garage. The experience shaped a determined performer who started out in the unsuccessful girl groups G.L.A.M. and BCG while also modelling and appearing in commercials. She began recording her own raps, but it was her cover of Kanye West and Jay-Z’s “Otis” that led to a record deal with Dr. Luke’s Kemosabe label and her debut single “Problem,” featuring will.i.am. She then reworked Jennifer Lopez’s “Jenny from the Block” as “Becky from the Block,” with Lopez appearing in the video. “Shower” became Becky G’s first major hit, reaching number 16 in the US in 2014, while the EP Play It Again helped establish her fanbase. Tours with Demi Lovato, Katy Perry, and Fifth Harmony followed, as did appearances on tracks by Cher Lloyd, Thalia, and Lil Jon and an acting role in the TV series Empire. Becky G found an even larger Spanish-language audience with “Mayores,” featuring Bad Bunny, and “Sin Pijama” with Natti Natasha, while incorporating reggaeton more deeply into her sound. She toured with J Balvin and joined Sean Paul and David Guetta on the UK hit “Mad Love” in 2018. Her debut album, Mala Santa, arrived in 2019 and included “Dollar” and the title track. She returned with “No Drama” in 2020, followed by “Ram Pam Pam” and “Fulanito” in 2021. Her second album, Esquemas, appeared in 2022, reaching number 92 on the Billboard 200 and number one on the Latin Pop Albums chart. Third album Esquinas followed in 2023, reaching number 7 on Top Latin Albums and number 3 on Regional Mexican Albums. Becky G continued exploring música mexicana on Encuentros in 2024, which peaked at number 9 on Regional Mexican Albums and featured Tito Double P, Oscar Maydon, and Delilah. In 2025, she teamed with Manuel Turizo on “Que Haces” and premiered the autobiographical documentary Rebbeca at the Tribeca Festival, with the film later receiving a limited theatrical release. In 2026, she collaborated with Carlos Santana on “Mi Gran Amor” before returning to pop, reggaeton, and hip-hop with “Marathon,” “EPA,” and “Patrona.” Those singles introduced her fifth studio album, Baraja Bendita, a 17-track project released through RCA Records on August 14, 2026.
