Biography

Bringing together the sounds of reggaeton, dancehall, R&B, and bachata, Puerto Rican Ozuna (née Juan Carlos Ozuna Rosado on March 13, 1992) announced himself as a new Latin urban-pop superstar with his debut album Odisea in 2017. Growing up in a poor family in San Juan, his Dominican father was a backing dancer for rapper Vico C, but was shot dead when Ozuna was just 3 years old. He spent much of his childhood living with his grandmother, but when his uncle spotted his talent and bought him his first microphone, Ozuna started penning his own songs, downloading beats from the Internet, and performing at small local bars. He moved to New York to seek further opportunities in 2010 but returned home after three years and started out posting songs to his video-streaming channel before signing a deal with Golden Family Records and landing his first big break when his track “Si No Te Quiere” became a big radio favorite in 2014. He later teamed up with his hero, Daddy Yankee, on the reggaeton hit “No Quiere Enamorarse,” and featured on Wisin's “Escapate Conmigo.” His sweet, tender pop ballad “Te Vas” began racking up millions of views and building a large following across Latin America. Singles “El Farsante” and “Se Preparo” were other massive successes, before the album Odisea featured guest spots from J Balvin, Anuel AA, Nicky Jam, and De La Ghetto, topping the Latin Billboard Chart for 46 non-consecutive weeks. It was later replaced at number 1 by his second album, Aura, in 2018, which also made it to number 7 on the Mainstream US charts. Ozuna’s duet “La Modelo” with Cardi B, his single “Criminal” with Natti Natasha, and his feature on the “Te Bote” remix all received over 1 billion streams and helped him become the most viewed artist on video-streaming sites in 2018. He was also part of DJ Snake's swaggering club hit “Taki Taki” alongside Selena Gomez and Cardi B, before returning with the trippy, cosmic banger “Baila Baila Baila” and his third album Nibiru in 2019. Picking up two Latin Grammys for his Rosalía collaboration “Yo x Ti, Tu x Mi," as well as eleven Billboard Awards that year, he went on to remain highly active in 2020, teaming up with The Black Eyed Peas on “Mamacita” before returning with his fourth LP, ENOC, which featured international superstars Sia and Doja Cat and reached number 17 on the Billboard 200. Concluding the year as the sixteenth-most-streamed artist globally, he returned in January 2021 with a joint LP alongside Anuel AA entitled Los Dioses, which entered the US albums chart at Number 10 and spawned the Hot 100 hit single “Antes.” OzuTochi, his fifth studio album, appeared in 2022 and cracked the Top 10 of both the Spanish charts and the Top Latin Albums chart, also reaching Number 161 on the Billboard 200. In late 2023, Ozuna earned his seventh consecutive Top 10 entry on the Top Latin Albums chart thanks to his sixth studio outing, Cosmo.
