William Omar Landrón Rivera (born on February 10, 1978, in Santurce), known professionally as Don Omar, emerged from Puerto Ricoâs late-1990s underground into mainstream reggaeton in the early 2000s, breaking through internationally with The Last Don (2003) and the era-defining singles âDale Don Daleâ and âDile.â He quickly consolidated his star status with King of Kings (2006), a landmark commercial moment for reggaeton that produced songs like âAngelitoâ and helped push the genre deeper into U.S. and pan-Latin charts, before expanding his sound across iDon (2009) and Meet the Orphans (2010), the latter anchored by âDanza Kuduroâ with Lucenzo and built around a wider circle of collaborators. He followed with MTO²: New Generation (2012) and The Last Don 2 (2015), while also widening his public profile through acting, appearing as Rico Santos in the Fast & Furious franchise across multiple films. After announcing a retirement run in 2017, Don Omar returned to releasing music in 2019 with âRamayamaâ featuring Farruko and the comeback album The Last Album (2019). In the early 2020s he re-entered the spotlight with major collaborations like âFlow HPâ with Residente and later the studio set Forever King (2023), which paired veteran status with contemporary features. In 2023 he also teamed with Wisin & Yandel on âSandunga,â which carried into 2024 momentum, a year that included large-scale touring activity and his public revelation that he was undergoing cancer treatment, after which he continued his schedule.
