Biography

Born in Union City, California, in 1976, Angelina Camarillo Ramos is better known as Latin pop singer Angelina, whose 1996 breakout single “Release Me” made it into the Top 10 on the Billboard chart. “Release Me” was featured on Angelina’s debut album for Upstairs Records, The Album, which also contained the hit follow-up singles "I Don't Need Your Love”, released in 1996, and “Without Your Love" and "Tide is High”, which both came out in 1997. In the years that followed, Angelina completed a number of international tours and became a bilingual trailblazer for Latin freestyle; a style of electronic dancefloor-ready music that originated in New York in the 1980s. She turned in her second album, Ven A Mi (Come To Me) in 1999, with the album track “Bailando” receiving a nomination for Latin Dance Maxi-Single of the Year at the Billboard Latin Music Awards in 2000. 2002 saw Angelina drop her third album, Love Ain’t Here No More. Angelina collaborated with hip hop labelmates New Ridaz, releasing single "Special Girl” in 2006, but stopped writing music following the fatal shooting of her brother Daniel Camarillo that year. She made a brief comeback with the 2009 single “Don’t Stop”.
