Biography

Boasting an impressive list of hit songs under his belt, Hong Kong singer and actor Andy Hui is one of the most popular Cantopop artists of his generation. Born Andy Hui Chi-on on August 12, 1967, he rose to fame in 1986 as the first runner-up in the fifth Annual New Talent Singing Awards. Later that year, he signed his first major-label contract, making his official recording debut in 1988 with his eponymous studio album, followed by a plethora of well-received albums for the Huaxing Records label. In the early 90s, he achieved widespread recognition as an actor in blockbuster films such as Girls Without Tomorrow (1992), Future Cops (1993), and Mack the Knife (1995), while his music experienced a surge in popularity during the following decade, reaching an all-time high in 2003 with the hit single "Yi Bu Yi Sheng." Thanks to his newfound success as a singer, Andy Hui racked up awards by the dozens and was named by Alan Tam as one of Hong Kong's New Four Heavenly Kings along with Hacken Lee, Leo Ku, and Edmond Leung. After a cheating scandal that nearly devastated his public image in 2019, the Cantopop artist signed with Universal Music and made a big comeback in 2022 with the single "Ren Yu Ren Zhi Jian," which entered the Cantonese Top 50 at Number 12.
