Biography

With a professional career spanning three decades, Hong Kong pop diva Karen Mok is an absolute powerhouse of an artist. Apart from releasing numerous blockbuster albums in both Cantonese and Mandarin, she has also gained recognition as an actress, winning Best Supporting Actress at the Hong Kong Film Awards for her role in the Wong Kar Wai 1993 thriller, Fallen Angels. Born in Hong Kong on June 2, 1970, she recorded her first demo tapes while studying Italian Literature in London. After landing a deal with the Philippines-based label Star Records, she made her official debut with the Cantonese album Karen in 1993, followed by the equally successful Karen Mok in Totality (1995). A few years later, she made a foray into the Chinese market on 1997's To Be, which became one of the most popular entries in her catalog. In the following decades, Karen Mok focused her efforts on Mandarin-speaking audiences, releasing popular albums such as Without You (2006), L!VE is... KAREN MOK (2007), Hui Wei (2009), and Precious (2010). Her first English album, Somewhere I Belong, appeared in 2013 and featured Eastern-tinged renditions of jazz classics. In 2018, she founded the Sony Music imprint Mok-a-by-baby Records and returned with the full-length Half Time. The Voyage, her eighteenth LP, saw the light in 2021.
