Biography

Israeli jazz composer and pianist Anat Fort was born in Tel Aviv on March 8, 1970. After studying at William Paterson University in New Jersey, she moved to New York in 1996. She developed her improvisation technique with Paul Bley and studied composition with Harold Seletsky. In 1999, she released her first self-produced album, Peel. In 2007, her contract with the ECM label led to the recording of A Long Story with drummer Paul Motian. The pianist then formed her own group, the Anat Fort Trio, in which she recorded the following album And If (2010), then Birdwatching (2016), with the participation of Italian saxophonist Gialuigi Trovesi. Two albums follow in 2019: Bubbles (Hypnote Records), under her own name and with Lieven Venken and Rene Hart, and Colour (Sunnyside Records), credited to the Anat Fort Trio.
