Biography
Benedikt Jahnel is a German jazz pianist and composer born on 28 May 1980 in Saint-Martin-dâHères, France. He began playing the piano at age 10 and studied jazz at the Berlin University of the Arts and City College New York. In 1999, he co-founded the band max.bab, which released the studio recordings Going Home (2007) and Inner Orbit (2009). He joined the group Cyminology in 2002 and recorded several albums with them, including Saburi (2011) and Phoenix (2015). Jahnel released the studio recording Das Kaktus 6tett (2006) before launching his trio with the album Modular Concepts (2008). His trio discography includes the studio recordings Equilibrium (2012) and The Invariant (2017). His musical compositions frequently draw inspiration from his work as a mathematician.
