Biography

Stefano Battaglia is an internationally lauded Italian pianist who performs jazz and classical music with a long list of albums often as leader of the Stefano Battaglia Trio featuring bass player Paolino Dalla, contrabassist Salvatore Maiore with various drummers including Gianni Cazzola, Manhu Roche, Roberto Gatto, Aldo Tomano, Roberto Dani and Tony Oxley. Jazz Times said that the pianist's catalogue on the ECM label "is one of the permanent bodies of piano work in the new millennium". Born in Milan, he performed as a soloist with the European Youth Orchestra and won competitions including the Bach Festival Award in 1986. His solo albums include 'Baptism' and 'Life of a Petal' in 1993, 'Rito Stagionale', 'Gesti', 'Splash' and 'Ecumenica: The Swiss Radio Tapes 1' and 'Ecumenica: The Swiss Radio Tapes 2' in 1997. His 2018 dates with his Trio featuring contrabassist Maiore and drummer Dani included performances in Bratislava.
