Air Dubai, a six-piece hip hop band from Denver, Colorado, was formed by Julian Church and Jon Shockness. The group initially started as a high school side project before transitioning to live instrumentation. Their first release was Wonder Age, an album produced by Andy Guerrero of Flobots, released in October 2010. Air Dubai gained significant traction with their subsequent EP Day Escape (2011), which featured production from Sylvia Massy and saw multiple songs featured on MTV shows. In December 2012, the band signed to Hopeless Records and released their first major label album Be Calm in 2014. Air Dubai was recognized as Westword Magazine's Best Hip Hop band in 2010, 2011, and 2012. In August 2015, the band announced an indefinite hiatus due to burnout and solo projects.
