Biography

Aaron Kyle Tveit was born in Middletown, New York on 21 October 1983 and began his artistic journey as a chorus and sports student before enrolling at Ithaca College to study vocal performance. His first professional break came in 2003 when he joined the national tour of Rent, playing Steve and understudying Roger/Mark, a role that led to his 2006 Broadway debut in Hairspray. In 2007, Aaron Kyle Tveit originated the role of Gabe Goodman in the Off‑Broadway production of Next to Normal, earning a Lucille Lortel Award nomination and later a Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Supporting Performer. He continued to build his stage résumé with roles in Wicked, Sweeney Todd, and Catch Me If You Can, the latter of which garnered Outer Critics Circle and Drama League nominations. Aaron Kyle Tveit’s breakthrough as a recording artist occurred with his solo album The Radio in My Head: Live at 54 Below in 2013, followed by cast recordings for Next to Normal (2009) and Catch Me If You Can (2011). His most prominent achievement was originating Christian in the Broadway production of Moulin Rouge! in 2019, for which he won the 2020 Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical, becoming the sole nominee in that category. The career continued with appearances in television musical Schmigadoon! and the revival of Sweeney Todd in 2024.
