A Life, A Song, A Cigarette was an Austrian alternative country group formed in Vienna in 2004 by Stephan Stanzel, Hannes Wirth, Philipp Karas, Martin Knobloch, and Michael Knobloch. Initially known as Sugarplum Fairy, they changed their name to avoid confusion with a Scandinavian band of the same name. Their debut album, Fresh Kills Landfill, was released in 2007 by Siluh Records and received positive media attention. The band's second album, Black Air, produced by Ken Stringfellow (The Posies), followed in 2008. The band was notably nominated for the FM4 Award, part of the Amadeus Austrian Music Award, in 2008 and 2009. A Life, A Song, A Cigarette returned with Tideland in 2012, which they produced themselves. Their fourth album, All That Glitters is Not Gold, was released on Wohnzimmer Records in January 2016.
