Biography

Zucchero (born September 25, 1955 in Roncocesi) is a singer, musician and songwriter from Italy. Born Adelmo Fornaciari, he is considered the father of Italian blues. He has been playing in various bands since the 1970s. At the beginning of the 1980s, he took part in the famous Sanremo Music Festival, the Italian preliminary round for the Eurovision Song Contest. in 1983, Zucchero released his debut album Un po' di Zucchero. in 1985, Zucchero once again took part in the Sanremo Festival together with The Randy Jackson Band with the song "Donne" and landed his first minor hit. The next album Rispetto also made it into the Italian charts in 1986. Zucchero's breakthrough came in 1987 with his next album Blue's. It was his first number 1 success in the Italian charts. It also includes the song "Senza una donna", which only became an international hit in the new version with Paul Young in 1991. Zucchero went on to record more of his own songs together with well-known artists and celebrated international success with them. These include the songs "A Wonderful World" (1991, together with Eric Clapton), "Diamante" (1992, together with Randy Crawford) and "Misere" (1992, together with Luciano Pavarotti. After that, Zucchero's international fame and success increased. This can already be seen on the album Spirito DiVino / Stray Cat in a Mad Dog City (1995) and especially on the follow-up Bluesugar (1998). Both albums became number 1 hits in Italy and also reached top positions in other European countries. To this day, Zucchero regularly releases further successful albums. The artist also tries out different styles and releases La sesión cubana in 2012, an album with Cuban-style songs. his album Discover is released in 2021. The album with cover songs reaches number 4 and gold status in Italy and also reaches the charts in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The follow-up Discover II follows in November 2024, with Zucchero once again making it into the Italian top 10 at number 6.
