Zapato 3, a Venezuelan alternative rock band, was formed in Caracas in 1983 by Fernando Batoni on bass and Javier Avellaneda on guitar and vocals. Influenced by bands like The Clash and Siouxsie and the Banshees, Zapato 3 began performing at local venues such as Los Toldos del Rosal. Their debut album, Amor, Furia Y Languidez, was released in 1990, followed by Besame Y Suicidate in 1991. Throughout the 1990s, they continued to release albums including Separacion (1993), Capsula Para Volar (1995), and Ecos Punzantes Del Ayer (1999). The band performed extensively throughout the country, shared stage with prominent Latin American acts such as Soda Stereo, Aterciopelados, and La Unión, as well as with national groups including Desorden Público, Sentimiento Muerto, Aditus, and Caramelos de Cianuro. They also made appearances on MTV in Miami and Mexico. After disbanding in 2004, Álvaro and Carlos Segura formed the band Solares in Miami with Gabriel Silva and Agustín Salas, later joined by Jaime Verdaguer. Other former members continued their careers with projects such as Metrozubdivision and Atkinson. They returned to the stage in 2012, during the 107th anniversary celebration of the Maracay Fair, and toured in Maracaibo in July 2013. On February 16, 2022, Diego Márquez passed away.
