Biography

Formed in 2003, Zak Williams & 1Akord (ZW1A) is a choir based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The group's founder and leader, Zak Williams, has developed a dynamic vocal choir with impeccable, unrestricted delivery. Zak has led the group to win two Rhythm of Gospel Awards for Contemporary Choir of the Year and Community Choir of the Year, as well as a 2020 Stellar Awards nomination for Contemporary Choir of the Year. Choir director Zak Williams and his big-singing singers returned seven years after their independent albums The Declaration "Live from Philly" (2006) and Things Are Gonna Get Better (2010), with The Next Chapter (2019), featuring the traditional gospel medley "Mommy's Medley" and "Unpredictable God", featuring David Willford and the late Thomas "TC" Clay, one of the album's many radio hits and fan favorites. In 2021, ZW1A released another hit radio single, "Jehovah Jireh", written by iconic Philadelphia songwriter and musician Kevin Pringle. "Jehovah Jireh" reached #1 on the Billboard/BDS Gospel Indicator Radio Chart and #18 on the Billboard/BDS Gospel Airplay Chart. ZW1A returned to the stage for its fourth album - recorded live - Revisited, released in spring 2023, and collaborated with Stellar Award-winning singer Lowell Pye on the album's first single "Jesus I'll Never Forget".
