Biography

The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir is a Grammy Award-winning gospel choir based in Brooklyn, New York, known for its powerful vocals and uplifting worship music. Founded in the early 1980s by Carol Cymbala, wife of Pastor Jim Cymbala, the choir began as a small ensemble and quickly grew into a dynamic group of over 270 voices. The members come from diverse backgrounds and are all volunteers, united by a shared faith and passion for gospel music. The choir gained national recognition with albums like Live… We Come Rejoicing (1991) and Favorite Song of All (1996), both of which won Grammy Awards for Best Gospel Choir or Chorus Album. Their 2003 release Live… This Is Your House earned further acclaim, and they’ve also received multiple Dove Awards over the years. In 2013, the choir performed “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” at President Barack Obama’s second inauguration, reaching millions worldwide. The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir continues to record and perform regularly at the Brooklyn Tabernacle Church, often releasing live albums that capture the energy of their worship services. Their latest release, A Night of Worship, showcases their signature blend of gospel, contemporary Christian, and worship music with fresh arrangements and heartfelt performances.
