Biography

Cho Youjeen, also known by her stage name Youjeen, is a South Korean singer, songwriter, and one of the few prominent female rock vocalists in the country. Born on July 5, 1977, in Incheon, South Korea, she is best known as the powerful frontwoman and vocalist of the rock band Cherry Filter. Renowned for her explosive vocal range, she masterfully employs techniques like scratching, screaming, and even whistle register—earning her the nickname "dolphin voice." Her ability to blend raw energy with emotional depth has made her voice a defining feature of Cherry Filter's music. Outside of her work with the band, Youjeen built a successful solo career in Japan during Cherry Filter’s hiatus. Under the guidance of J from the legendary band LUNA SEA, she released several singles and albums, including The Doll (2001) and Bewitch (2002), some of which reached high positions on the Oricon charts. Her solo music blends pop rock with alternative influences, showcasing her versatility beyond heavier rock. She is also a vocal professor at Sejong Cyber University, contributing to the next generation of musicians.
