Biography

Broken Valentine is a South Korean alternative rock band, originally formed in 2002 under the name "6. August," before settling on their current name in 2007. The band consists of Sunghwan (bass), Jihwan (lead guitar), and Koopa (drums), with Kyungjun (lead vocals) and Junho (guitar) joining in 2019. Known for their powerful alternative rock and post-grunge sound, Broken Valentine first gained prominence in 2009 when they won the Grand Prize and Best Composer Award at Yamaha’s Asian Beat Grand Finale for their song "Answer Me." Despite struggling to achieve mainstream recognition, the band made it to the round of 16 on the popular Korean television program Top Band in 2011, solidifying their place in the local indie scene. Broken Valentine released their first EP, Calling You, in 2009, followed by their full-length albums Shade (2012) and Aluminum (2013). Tragedy struck the band in 2015 when lead vocalist Van (Kim Kyung-min) passed away in a drowning accident, leading to a period of uncertainty. In 2019, the band regrouped with new members and released their single "Not Yours." In 2022, they released their third studio album, 3.
