Yosef Gutman Levitt (born 1979) is a South African-born Israeli acoustic bass guitarist, upright bassist, and composer from Knoppieslaagte. Levitt studied piano as a child before playing bass guitar at age 16, inspired by Jaco Pastorius. In 1998, Levitt attended the Berklee College of Music on a scholarship earned for his arrangement of the South African National Anthem. Levitt graduated magna cum laude in 2002 and moved to New York City to perform in jazz venues. Levitt emigrated to Israel in 2009. He returned to music in 2018 after his technology venture, Mad Mimi, was acquired by GoDaddy in 2014. His work incorporates traditional Hasidic melodies with jazz and Latin influences. Levitt released his debut album, Chabad Al Hazman, in 2019. He collaborated with Tal Yahalom on the albums Tal Yasis and Tsuf Harim. Levitt released the trio recording Upside Down Mountain in 2022, Soul Song (2023) with Lionel Loueke, and Unity in 2024.
