Biography

South Korean rapper, music executive, and record producer Yang Hyun-suk was born on January 9, 1970, in Seoul. One of the most influential figures in the South Korean music industry, he first gained fame as a member of the influential K-pop group Seo Taiji and Boys, which he joined in 1991 alongside Seo Taiji and Lee Juno. The group revolutionized the Korean music scene, incorporating rap influences into Korean music and challenging societal norms through their lyrics. They disbanded in 1996, after which Yang Hyun Suk pursued solo projects. In 1996, he founded YG Entertainment, which grew to become one of South Korea's largest and most influential music companies. Under his leadership, YG produced a string of successful artists, including Jinusean, Big Bang, 2NE1, Blackpink, and Psy. He also released a self-titled solo album in 1998, featuring a song composed by Seo Taiji. Yang Hyun Suk served as a judge on several reality TV shows, including K-pop Star and Mix Nine, and contributed to the production of some of YG's most popular survival shows, including YG Treasure Box. Over the following years, Yang Hyun Suk remained involved in YG projects, particularly with newer acts like BabyMonster.
