Biography
Weval is an electro duo from Amsterdam formed in 2013 by Harm Coolen and Merijn Scholte Albers, two musicians initially involved in film and audiovisual production before devoting themselves fully to music. Their style blends downtempo, house, trip-hop and electronic pop, characterized by warm textures, hypnotic rhythms and a strong sense of melody. After a number of acclaimed EPs released from 2013 on the German label Kompakt, they released a self-titled debut album in 2016, which received a favorable critical reception and established their reputation on the European electronic scene. 2019 saw the release of The Weight, marked by denser production and more pop and orchestral sounds, followed in 2022 by the Time Goes EP, which confirmed their evolution towards refined, accessible electronic writing. Since then, the duo have pursued an international festival and club career, renowned for their immersive live performances and singular approach to sound. The Remember album and Dreaming EP follow in 2023, with remixes of Night Versions in 2024 and Chorophobia in 2025.
