Biography

Violinski is a rock band formed in 1977 in the United Kingdom, featuring Electric Light Orchestra violinist Mik Kaminski and former member Mike de Albuquerque on guitar and vocals. The band's initial lineup included Barry Dunnery on guitar, John Hodgson on drums, Paul Mann on keyboards, Iain Whitmore on bass guitar and vocals, and John Marcangelo on keyboards. Violinski gained prominence with their instrumental hit "Clog Dance", which peaked at number 17 on the UK Singles Chart in March 1979. The track was written by Marcangelo. Their debut album, No Cause for Alarm, was released later that year and reached number 49 on the UK Albums Chart. In 1980, they followed up with their second album, Stop Cloning About. Despite their early success, Violinski struggled to maintain momentum, and their subsequent releases did not achieve the same level of chart success. The band's final studio album, Whirling Dervish, was released in 1982 exclusively in the U.S. as a re-release of No Cause for Alarm. In 2007, Violinski compiled their greatest hits on the album Clog Dance: The Very Best Of Violinski, which included previously unreleased material.
