Biography

From humble beginnings as a fresh-faced college group playing band contests in Devon, Muse evolved into one of the world's greatest live acts, headlining festivals and selling out Wembley Stadium. Debut album Showbiz (1999) showcased their trademark extravagant, alternative rock with the singles "Sunburn" and "Muscle Museum" leading to support slots with Red Hot Chili Peppers and Foo Fighters. With their reputation growing, second album Origin of Symmetry (2001) gave the world "Plug in Baby," "New Born" and a rich, gothic cover version of "Feeling Good," made famous by Nina Simone. The release of Absolution (2003) coincided with their first international stadium tour and the band returned triumphantly to the UK in 2004 to headline Glastonbury Festival. Fourth album Black Holes and Revelations (2006) went straight to number one in the UK and was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize while The Resistance (2009) topped the album charts in 19 countries and won them a Grammy Award in 2011. 2012 saw the release of The 2nd Law. The album went straight to number one on the UK Albums Chart and scored a number two position on the Billboard 200. Drones was released in 2015, topping the UK Albums Chart once again and winning them the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album. They headlined Lollapalooza Berlin and Glastonbury in 2015 as well as Reading and Leeds festivals, before announcing their North America tour on which they were supported by Thirty Seconds to Mars. In early 2018, singles "Dig Down," "Thought Contagion" and "Something Human" were released, ahead of their album Simulation Theory, which they put out in November 2018. They returned in 2022 with their ninth album and first full-length in four years, the genre-twisting Will of the People, which was self-produced by the band and gave them their seventh consecutive UK number one album.
