The Long Faces is a British alternative rock band formed in 2017, originally in Canterbury before relocating to London and Leeds, with a line-up of Tom Lane (lead vocals, keyboards), Duy Phimasset (guitar), Halden Cooke (guitar, violin, backing vocals), Kristina Rhodes (bass, backing vocals) and Dan Ball (drums). Drawing on Canterburyâs progressive rock heritage and contemporary indie influences, they released their debut single "Cadence" in 2017, followed in 2018 by "Sum of My Cares" and "Jane!", the latter becoming an early fan favorite and helping the group reach a growing international streaming audience. After a short break from releasing new music, The Long Faces returned on 12 June 2020 with the single "Sail Away", issued independently as a preview of their debut EP Documentaries, which appeared on 24 July 2020 and featured the tracks "Sail Away", "Documentaries" and "And Where Have You Gone, Mr. Wolf?", recorded between Dreamfrance and Goose Studio in Landes, France and mixed and produced by Dan Ball and Halden Cooke. The EP attracted specialist press attention for its mixture of alternative rock, progressive structures and 1980s-influenced post-punk moods, and by the early 2020s the bandâs small catalogue of singles and Documentaries had accumulated millions of streams on streaming platforms. On 21 April 2023 they released the standalone single "Eisenhower", further emphasizing baroque arrangements, shifting meters and Laneâs baritone vocal style, and by the mid-2020s The Long Faces were regarded as a cult UK indie/prog act.
