Biography

Tania May-Bowers, known professionally as Via Tania, is an Australian singer who began her career in Sydney during the 1990s. After moving to Chicago at the end of the 1990s, she released her debut EP Dream Of... through Chocolate Industries in 2001. Her breakthrough came with the critically acclaimed full-length album Under a Different Sky (2003), which featured collaborations with artists such as Prefuse 73 and Tortoise. The album received positive reviews from Pitchfork and was covered by CMJ and Venus Zine, leading to performances alongside acts like Junior Boys and Lisa Germano. In 2007, Via Tania released Moon Sweet Moon, which included contributions from members of Tortoise and Shearwater. The album was well-received in Australia and featured singles "Our Wild Flight" and "Become Forest".
