Dominatrix was an American synthpop band from New York City, formed in 1983 by producer and songwriter Stuart Argabright. Their breakthrough came with the release of their single "The Dominatrix Sleeps Tonight" in 1984. The song featured spoken lyrics and was noted for its risque video directed by Beth B. Despite this, the single reached number 2 on the dance charts and spent eighteen weeks there. Dominatrix toured as an opening act for Grace Jones but soon disbanded. The song was featured in multiple films and ranked number 119 in Rolling Stone's list of "200 Greatest Dance Songs of All Time" in 2022.
