Biography
Upright Citizens was a German punk band from Bottrop, formed in 1981. Their debut EP, Bombs of Peace (1982), was released in June 1982. Their breakthrough came with their first full-length album, Make the Future Mine and Yours (1983). They gained recognition for their live performances and toured extensively throughout Europe and the United States. In 1985, they became the first German punk band to tour the United States for six weeks. Notable albums and EPs include Facts and Views (1985), Open Eyes, Open Ears, Brains to Think and a Mouth to Speak (1985), Kiss Me Now (1986), Farewell (1988), I Got the Hometown Blues (1991), Underground (1994), and Colour Your Life (1995). Their lineup changed in 1989 with Alex joining on drums and Chris on guitar. They disbanded following their final concert in April 2003, held on a chartered riverboat on the Rhine, though they played a concert in Essen in 2022.
