Biography

Founded in 2000 in Trondheim, Norway, the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra (TJO) is considered one of the most important and creative jazz ensembles in Norway. The Trondheim Jazz Orchestra is a musicians' pool, which means that the orchestra changes in instrumentation and size depending on each project. The TJO has collaborated with Norwegian and international artists alike including Pat Metheny, Joshua Redman, Kim Myhr, Jenny Hval, Stian Westerhus, Kristoffer Lo and many others. A frequent collaborator and supporter of the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra was American keyboardist and jazz icon Chick Corea, who performed with them live and appears on several of their releases including Live in Molde (2005) and What Game Shall We Play Today (2018). The TJO has performed outside of Norway, including appearances at the Annual Jazz Conference in New York City and the Tokyo Jazz Festival in Japan, both in 2006. The TJO has released over two dozen albums over the years, most of them featuring special collaborations with artist such as Magic Pocket (2011’s Kinetic Music), Marius Neset (2014’s Lion), Albatrosh (2014’s Tree House), Skrap (2017’s Antropocen), The Maxx (2020’s Live), and Ole Morton Vågan (2021’s Plastic Wave).
