Biography

Jazz saxophonist and composer Lennart Åberg was born in Helsingborg, Sweden on February 26, 1942. As a young boy, he first played the accordion before he eventually switched to saxophone. In 1960, he played in Kurt Järnberg's quintet before moving to Uppsala to study at the university. There, he became involved with several groups including a quintet he formed with trumpeter Bosse Broberg. One of the original members of the Radio Jazz group, Lennart Åberg also played in the George Russell 6-tett and Oriental Wind as well as forming the group Rena Rama in 1972. Lennart Åberg was primarily a jazz artist but experimented with various styles of world music. He was also a founding member of legendary jazz club Fasching, located in Stockholm, Sweden. His catalog includes titles such as Partial Solar Eclipse (1977), Green Prints (1986), Dona Nostra (1993), Ellington & Strayhorn (1995), The Zone (1996), and 7 Pieces (2000). Lennart Åberg died on September 30, 2021, at the age of 79.
