Biography

Born in Toronto, Ontario, on January 23, 1994, Tony Ann is a Canadian pianist who made his name through social networking. He began learning the piano at the age of twelve, studying at the Music Institute in Cleveland, then at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he took composition courses and became interested in production. With classmate Matt Underwood, he formed the electro-pop duo The Swoons. The notoriety of his videos on social networks, and in particular his covers of The Chainsmokers, caught the duo's attention, and they invited him on tour to perform two of his compositions. Signed by Decca Records, Tony Ann uses synesthesia, which associates music with colors, to compose the pieces on his Emotionally Blue, Emotionally Orange and Emotionally Red EPs, released in 2023. His compositions, ranging from classical to ambient to electro-pop, were gradually brought together in the following EPs Chapter I and Something I Could Never Be, while the pianist embarked on a major world tour that included a date at the Montreux Festival. In 2024, while his tracks are being acclaimed on platforms the world over, Tony Ann delivers a new series of EPs entitled 90°, 180° and 270° en 2024, which feed into the album Emotions, ranked No. 34 in the French classical music charts.
